This week Gus “El Chivatón” Barreiro dropped a seemingly positive mail piece in Spanish to senior citizens in the State House district he seeks to represent (pictured below).
It features pictures of prominent Republicans–Senator Marco Rubio, former Governor Jeb Bush, Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney–with bold text that declares: “Gustavo Barreiro SUPPORTS our Republican leaders.”
Note how he uses his full, more Spanish-sounding name “Gustavo” instead of “Gus” in a Spanish mailing…but I digress.
Below the pictures it states, “Once elected, my commitment to you is to work with all of our Republican leaders to bring new jobs to our community.”
Fine. That’s harmless enough. But the funny thing is he is using pictures of Bush and Rubio, whom he never really worked with or supported during his time in the Florida House of Representatives. Instead, he consistently allied himself with moderates and RINOs who were a menace to the conservative agenda, which is why he was always a backbencher who was never awarded any key chairmanships or other leadership positions.
As I wrote last week, he backstabbed and chivatted (my word) a fellow Republican legislator from South Florida, who was a member of the conservative wing of the State House Republican Caucus who also happened to be a key ally and lieutenant of then-incoming Speaker Marco Rubio. And he wants us to believe that he “supports our Republican leaders” such as Rubio and Jeb and is a conservative like them?
Next time, Gus, include pictures of “Republicans” who better reflect your record such as Charlie Crist and Alex Villalobos.

Warn your abuelos in District 112 to not be fooled by El Chivatón!
