The Miami Herald reported tonight that the Environmental Protection Agency blasted an e-mail out to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The e-mail included a description of why Hispanic Heritage is celebrated beginning September 15 of every year. It stated:
Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.
What was odd is that instead of picturing an iconic landmark in one of the countries listed, or even a picture of a famous Hispanic-American, it sticks a snapshot of Stalinist Cuba, specifically a picture of a communist propaganda mural that depicts mass murdering Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara and a quote that says “unto victory, always!”
Victory against whom? I would probably guess victory against the government the Cuban dictatorship constantly villifies, the very government sending out that ridiculous e-mail. But I digress.
Despite the hatred we Cuban-Americans have for Che Guevara for the atrocities he personally committed when Castro came to power, I should note that we will not storm any US Government offices, much less assault anyone over this. We’ll merely express outrage and loudly remind people that this is just more of the same from this administration.
See, the Obama Administration is an assortment of radical leftists, communists, and other such malcontents at the highest levels. We all know how “Green Jobs Czar” Van Jones was forced to resign when it was revealed he was a self-proclaimed communist and “truther” who believed Bush was behind the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. There’s also Obama Senior Advisors Valerie Jarrett and David Axelrod who both have very close family ties to card-carrying communists.
Down in South Florida, Obama maintains close friendly relations with the narrow segment of Castro-sympathizing backstabbers in the Cuban community.
For example, one of his staunchest supporters is Democrat Party activist and detestable Castro-sympathizing backstabber Alfredo Durán.
This guy’s claim to fame is that he bravely fought against Castro’s communist hordes in the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion. As well all know, Kennedy broke his promise of air support, the Cuban patriots were overwhelmed by Castro’s goons, and over a thousand of them wound up imprisoned in Castro’s gulags for over a year.

After returning to the United States, Durán remained active in anti-Castro movements, even serving as the president of the Bay of Pigs Veterans Association. But at some point he bucked his community and made an about-face by becoming an activist in the political party of the president who betrayed him and sent him to die on a beach in 1961. He even became state chairman of that party for a time, and openly began to advocate dialogue with the illegitimate Stalinist Castro regime that imprisoned him and his fellow freedom fighters years before. He then went to Cuba and personally visited with the tyrant himself (pictured).
In 2010, Durán attended a fundraiser for Perpetual Loser Candidate and fellow Cuban exile backstabber Joe Garcia in the home of the indicted former Democrat Mayor of Hialeah Raul Martinez in which Nancy Pelosi was the guest of honor.
Durán and his wife Chelin are highly regarded in Democrat Party circles (which speaks volumes of said party) and are outspoken, ardent supporters of Obama. Durán does more of his activism behind the scenes, but Chelin is a big mouth who probably talks a little more than Alfredo would like.
Of course, I’ve gone on a tangent here. I’m certain Obama did not personally approve including a picture of Che Guevara in a benign EPA e-mail, and I’m sure his ties to unsavory leftist characters played no direct role.
But it does illustrate the culture and mentality running rampant at all levels of this administration, as well as a continuation of a long pattern of Democrat administrations offending the Cuban exile community.
Whether it’s sending an official government communication showcasing a communist revolutionary, snubbing the leader of America’s greatest friend and ally while apologizing to America’s enemies, or embracing Castro-sympathizing traitors, the Obama Administration repeatedly and clearly tells us who they are.
It’s almost honest.
**UPDATE 9/13/2012**
Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart issued a statement in response to the EPA’s e-mail. It reads, in part:
This Administration has granted visas to Mariela Castro and other top Cuban regime officials, offered the Castro brothers unilateral concessions, and now sends an email with a image of an anti-American mass murderer. This is not only offensive to victims and their families, but also to anyone who believes in freedom. This email does not celebrate Hispanic heritage, but rather insults everything that the Hispanic community stands for.
Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen also released a statement, which reads in part:
“This Administration just doesn’t seem to get it. The image of Che is an insult to countless people who lost family members because of his evil and twisted acts…. Surely, the EPA could have chosen the image of a Hispanic person who really possessed the attributes that showcase our proud Hispanic heritage. This sad and unnecessary episode encompasses all that is wrong with this Administration: Their priorities are backwards and their allegiances border on the fringe of society with a leftist fanatical slant that is worrisome and not descriptive of our great nation.”
